Before I give you my top 5 silver shampoos, here’s a brief explnation of how they work. I’ve created the picture on the left to help!
Silver shampoos contain purple/violet colour pigment, which is the opposite of yellow on the colour wheel (see left). The violet pigment is deposited on your hair and effectively neutralises the yellow tones.
You shouldn’t use your silver shampoo every day, as it is effectively a light, temporary toner. Twice a week, will keep the brasiness at bay and leave your hair bright and vibrant.
So, that’s how they work, here’s my top 5!
1. L’Oreal Serie Expert Silver Shampoo
L’Oreal Serie Expert Silver shampoo is my favourite shampoo for combating yellow tones and the one I have been primarily using since I went blonde last year (I’m a natural brunette btw!).
Works great on silver blonde hair and also on highlights.
2. Wella SP Silver Blonde Shampoo
I’m a big fan of Wella Sp and this year they launched their own silver blonde shampoo. Perfect for neutralising warm tones and giving hair that ice blonde look.
3. Matrix So Silver Shampoo
Matrix are another brand in the L’Oreal stable and as you would expect, always produce high quality hair care products. Their silver shampoo has been around for a while in slightly different variations and is currently called Total Results So Silver.
4. Touch Of Silver Brightening Shampoo
I haven’t tried this one personally, but have read a number of good reviews on it. Can’t really go wrong at the price either!
Available for just £2.03 at Amazon.
5. Schwarzkopf BC Bonacure Color Freeze Silver Shampoo
The last shampoo on my top 5 silver shampoos is BC Bonacure Color Freeze silver shampoo from Schwarzkopf. As with the other shampoos on this list, Color Freeze contains violet pigment, which neutralises yellow tones and enriches the shimmer of cool colour.
So, that’s my top 5 silver shampoos for eliminating yellow tones and brasiness. Any I’ve missed? Do you have any other favourite products for keeping your ice blonde cool? Please leave a comment below!
